Work-Ready, 10 Individuals with Disabilities Earn BNSP Makeup Artist Certification After Training at Bakti BCA

Jakarta, 12 July 2024 – Ten participants with disabilities in the "The Beauty of Disabilities: Make Up Class with BCA” program were declared graduates at an appreciation event held at the Galeri Indonesia Kaya, Jakarta on Thursday (11/7). This event is the highlight of BCA Bakti MUA program, designed to prepare participants to become professional makeup artists (MUA). The program organized by Bakti BCA, in collaboration with Perempuan Tangguh Indonesia (PTI), aims to empower individuals with disabilities/Sahabat Disabilitas (deaf friends).

Previously, the participants completed a series of programs in over a month, including a competency exam conducted by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP). This was to evaluate the participants' skills and understanding of the training materials, ensuring they possess the necessary skills to compete in the makeup artist industry. This certification is expected to open wider opportunities for the program graduates, who will be referred to as ‘MUA Bakti BCA’ (Bakti BCA’s MUAs), in pursuing careers as professional makeup artists.

At the graduation ceremony, MUA Bakti BCA performed a makeup demonstration on stage to Puteri Indonesia Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Melati Tedja, as well as several BCA management and representatives. Behind the scenes, MUA Bakti BCA also did the makeup for the MC, dancers, and performers at the graduation event. This moment gives an opportunity and experience for Bakti BCA MUA to directly apply the makeup skills they had learned.

BCA Director Antonius Widodo Mulyono said, “‘The Beauty of Disabilities: Make Up Class with BCA’ program is part of Bakti BCA's commitment in providing an inclusive space for Sahabat Disabilitas. We hope that our friends gained the necessary skills to achieve their dreams of becoming professional makeup artists in the future. We believe that empowered individuals can empower their communities, and this is one tangible form of BCA's commitment to supporting the competitiveness of individuals in Indonesia.”

Apart from makeup demonstration, the graduation ceremony was enlivened by a fashion show to showcase the makeup results of the Sahabat Disabilitas. The models, including Puteri Kebudayaan dan Pendidikan Indonesia, displayed the makeup on stage while wearing outfits from partner fashion designers that highlighted the beauty and diversity of Indonesian culture.

Ester Meyana, Bakti BCA MUA, shared her experience after completing the program, “Having a lot of makeup experience is important for advancing as a makeup artist. Throughout the program, I have learned a lot of knowledge and techniques, and I felt a sense of equality between hearing friends and deaf friends. Thank you BCA and PTI for the support.”

Since "The Beauty of Disabilities: Make Up Class with BCA" program began in May, participants have received various training, such as professional MUA workshops and makeup demonstration practice, to prepare for careers as professional MUA. Sahabat Disabilitas received direct guidance from renowned industry professionals such as Irwan Riady, Asmara Wreksono, Anda Arrusa, and the LT PRO team. Additionally, participants also joined social media management and financial management to prepare for running their own makeup artist businesses in the future.

It is known that BCA consistently supports individuals with disabilities through various programs, including the BCA Berbagi Ilmu “I’m Capable” series. In 2023, BCA organized a Bazaar for Products of People with Disabilities, featuring products from the Dewijaya Care community, Precious One, and Precious Family. The products ranged from food, toys, beauty products, handicrafts, to fashion. Furthermore, BCA also conducted a Banking Tour for 40 students from Special Schools (SLB) to educate them about banking services and financial literacy.

"We hope the skills and experiences that they gained during this program will serve as valuable assets to compete in the makeup artist industry. This is one tangible manifestation of #BuktiBaktiBCA’s commitment in supporting and empowering Sahabat Disabilitas to become financially independent," Antonius concluded.
