Makassar, 17 May 2024 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) continues to strengthen its commitment to support the halal economy in Indonesia by holding BCA's MSME Halal Certification Workshop in 2024. This year the Halal Certification Workshop was opened at the Region IV Office, Makassar, South Sulawesi on Monday (13/5) and was attended by 101 MSMEs in Makassar. This activity aims to support improving the quality of MSME products so that they can upgrade and develop their business scale.
Head of BCA Makassar Region IV Office Harijanto said, “We recognize the important role of MSMEs in the national economic growth. Through the 2024 Halal Certification Workshop program, BCA is committed to supporting the development of MSME businesses by providing access and understanding of halal certification in the self-declared category. We hope that MSME players take advantage of this opportunity to improve product quality and business scale.”
In the BCA's MSME Halal Certification Workshop, BCA supports MSME players by providing halal certification fees. Participants of the 2024 BCA's MSME Halal Certification Workshop also have the opportunity to get several attractive offers, such as online account opening, online BCA Credit Card opening, activation of payment methods via QRIS, and business financing facilities (KUR) and other consumptive products.
Empowering MSMEs has always been BCA's main focus. Based on a survey by the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, the turnover of businesses increased by an average of 8.5% after obtaining a halal certificate. This is because halal-certified products are in high demand among Indonesians. In line with this, BCA is committed to continuing the halal certification program for MSMEs.
BCA's halal certification program this year focuses on acquisition, which continues with the issuance of halal certificates for 2,000 MSMEs across Indonesia this year. For information, in 2023, BCA will also conduct halal certification training and assist in issuing 1000 halal certificates for MSMEs, the majority of which are women, spread across 10 cities/regencies in nine provinces throughout Indonesia. This effort placed BCA in second place nationally as the institution with the most halal certificate quotas in 2023.
“We hope this halal certification facilitation can positively impact the quality of MSME products. As we know, Indonesia is the second most Muslim populated country globally,” said BCA Corporate Communication and Social Responsibility EVP Hera F Haryn.
“As a result, halal certification is an inevitable requirement for products in Indonesia. Through this support, it is hoped that more MSMEs will be encouraged to improve the quality of their products through halal certification,” concluded BCA Commercial & SME Business EVP Freddy Iman.
BCA's support for MSMEs is also carried out in the financing sector, as reflected in BCA's MSME lending which grew by 13.5% YoY, reaching Rp110.4 trillion as of March 2024. BCA provides promo lending rates for commercial debtors and MSME engaged in environmentally sound business activities to continue encouraging lending to this sector.
