Padang, 12 December 2023 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) is actively contributing to the growth of MSMEs and the halal economy in Indonesia by organizing a free Halal Certificate Workshop for MSMEs assisted by BCA in Padang. In collaboration with the Indonesia Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (Kemenkop UKM), BCA provided training on self-declaration halal certification registration. This initiative is expected to empower MSMEs to obtain halal certification independently.
Approximately 500 MSMEs participated in the event held at Mercure Hotel Padang on Tuesday (12/12), marking the conclusion of the “Halal Certificate Registration Training for BCA-assisted MSMEs” series for the year 2023. The training session was attended by notable figures, including West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah, Deputy for Micro-Business at the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs Yulius, Head of Halal Product Assurance Organizing Body under the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs Siti Aminah, BCA EVP of Commercial Business & SME Freddy Iman, BCA Head of Region V Iwan Santoso Narto, and Head of BCA Sub-branch Office in Padang Robert Siahaan.
BCA EVP of Commercial Business & SME Freddy Iman explained, “BCA recognizes the crucial role of MSMEs in the national economic growth. Therefore, through this halal certification training program, BCA is committed to supporting the development of MSME businesses, particularly by understanding the high demand for halal-certified products in Indonesia. We hope that this halal certification training will empower more MSMEs to become self-reliant in enhancing the quality of their products and competing effectively in both domestic and international markets.”
During the Halal Certificate Workshop, BCA provides incentives for free halal certification applications to MSMEs who participate in this activity. The goal of this incentive is to alleviate the financial burden for business owners aiming to develop their enterprises by obtaining halal certification.
“As of 7 December 2023, BCA has successfully issued 228 Halal certificates, with an additional 215 certificates still in the process. These certificates, both issued and pending, originate from MSMEs located in various areas, including Lombok, Makassar, Tulung Agung, Surabaya, Tasikmalaya, Solo, Banjarmasin, and the Jabodetabek area. Given the strong enthusiasm from BCA customers, we are confident in achieving the target of issuing 1,000 halal certificates. We would also like to express our gratitude to the MSMEs that participated in this workshop. Notably, during the workshop, we witnessed an increase in new BCA customers, the adoption of BCA QRIS/EDC, and the potential for BCA Productive Loans, both for working capital loans (KUR) and non-working capital loans (Non-KUR),” expressed Freddy.
West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah appreciates BCA’s initiative to conduct halal certification training for MSMEs in Padang. "We would like to express our gratitude to BCA and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs for organizing halal certification training for MSMEs in Padang. We hope that MSMEs can maximize their potential after obtaining halal certification. May this collaborative effort serve as the starting point for the establishment of a resilient and competitive MSME ecosystem in Padang," stated Mahyeldi.
According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, business owners experienced an average turnover increase of 8.5% after obtaining a halal certificate for their businesses. MSMEs that can participate in this free certification training are divided into two groups, namely debtor/customer criteria and business/product criteria. Those who fall into the first criteria are MSMEs in the micro segment with a business capital of less than IDR 2 billion, have their own/original products, and have a Business License Number (NIB). Meanwhile, the business/product criteria are MSMEs engaged in food/beverages, home industries, have a maximum product variant of 10 types, and have never applied for/have a halal certificate.
Empowering MSMEs continues to be the primary focus of BCA’s journey. Alongside offering free halal training and certification, BCA extends its support to MSMEs by actively engaging in the financing sector. This commitment is reflected in the reflected in the disbursement of MSME loans that grew by 16.4% YoY to reach IDR 104.8 trillion as of September 2023. BCA’s commitment to supporting MSMEs to become champions in the homeland is also reflected in the organization of BCA UMKM Fest 2023, held offline at Gandaria City, Jakarta, from 9-13 August, and online from 12 August to 13 September 2023, successfully reaching 1,400 SME participants.
