Jakarta, 31 August 2023 – The issuance of 1,000 free halal certificates has become the subject of collaboration between PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) and the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Body (BPJPH) under the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. This partnership reflects BCA's commitment to supporting the growth of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) as well as the halal economy in Indonesia.
Halal certification has become one of the ways for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to develop their businesses. Recognizing this, BCA, along with BPJPH, are committed to facilitating MSME customers of BCA in obtaining halal certificates for free and with ease.
SVP of the Business Commercial & SME Division of BCA, Tjoeng Haryanto, appreciates the government's initiative to promote halal certification among MSMEs. "Fundamentally, we are always ready to assist the government in supporting the development of MSMEs. We believe that helping to facilitate free halal certification for MSMEs can accelerate the improvement of domestic product quality, increase our turnover, and enhance our service excellence for customers," says Tjoeng.
Several criteria applied to this free halal certification facility. For customers, some of the requirements include businesses with capital less than Rp2 billion, operating in the production sector with their own/original products, and possessing a Business Identification Number. Since this is a self-declared halal certification facility, the requirements that apply to business fields/products involve being in the food/beverage sector that doesn't contain animal meat, home industries, a maximum of 10 product variants, and products that have not previously applied for or obtained halal certification.
BCA's commitment in this collaboration is open to MSMEs in DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, West Sumatra, and other provinces with close ties to halal products.
Empowering MSMEs has always been an integral part of BCA's journey. Data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises shows that business operators experience an average 8.5% increase in revenue after obtaining halal certification. Following this, BCA aims to accelerate the halal certification process for 1,000 MSMEs by the end of 2023, in line with the commitment made with the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs.
As of June 30, 2023, BCA has successfully disbursed a total of Rp160.1 trillion in MSME loans, representing a remarkable year-on-year growth of 10.4%. BCA's dedication to championing MSMEs across the nation is further highlighted through the hosting of BCA UMKM Fest 2023. This event occurred in two phases: offline at Gandaria City, Jakarta, from August 9 to 13, and online from August 12 to September 13, 2023.
EVP Corporate Communication & Responsibility of BCA, Hera F. Haryn, hopes that the provision of this halal certification facility can have a positive impact on the quality of MSME products. "As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, halal certification is a crucial necessity for businesses in Indonesia. With this support, we hope that more MSMEs will be motivated to enhance the quality of their products through halal certification," concludes Hera.
It's worth noting that according to the Ministry of Finance, the halal economy has the potential to make a substantial contribution of USD5.1 billion annually to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through exports and investments, given the nation's Muslim population of 230 million. Furthermore, the global halal economy is projected to reach a staggering USD4.96 trillion by the year 2030.
