Jakarta, 03 June 2021 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) continues to support the orangutans conservation in order to preserve the Indonesian endangered species. Most recently, BCA supported the release of five of seven orangutans returned to the Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park (TNBBBR), Central Kalimantan.
In collaboration with the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF), Central Kalimantan BKSDA and Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park, the release of five orangutans is carried out on 3-5 June 2021 from the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Rehabilitation Center to the TNBBBR forest in Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan. This release will use land and water transportation modes, with the entire journey time (including rest) estimated to be around 15-20 hours.
BCA through the Bakti BCA CSR program not only supports the release of five orangutans, but also the rehabilitation of five other orangutans, including food procurement and logistics, health care, laboratory tests, and school activities in the forest. Their existence in the rehabilitation center is only temporary. BCA hopes that through this assistance, in the future orangutans will be ready and able to return to live freely and protected in the forest.
In addition, BCA also carries out Orangutan Goes To School (OGTS) and Financial Literacy (FL) activities, namely roadshows to several schools in Palangkaraya to introduce and socialize the life of endangered Indonesian animals, especially orangutans, to students from an early age. This action invites the younger generation to care for the environment and species, as well as educate the younger generation to be wise in managing finances from an early age. OGTS activities have been scheduled to be held at SMAN 2 Palangkaraya, SMA Man Model Palangkaraya, and SMA Bina Cita Utama, until early June 2021.
BCA’s EVP of CSR Inge Setiawati said that attention to orangutan conservation must be carried out continuously so that these endangered protected species can be preserved in a sustainable manner. BCA's attention to orangutan conservation is carried out holistically through orangutan rehabilitation and release programs, tree planting programs, and environmental conservation education programs for the community.
BCA's support through the Bakti BCA CSR program for the conservation and release of orangutans has been implemented since 2012. BCA has supported the orangutan release program for at least 43 individuals since 2021. In addition to supporting orangutans, Bakti BCA is also involved in environmental conservation, including through conservation activities of 14.700 mangrove trees, 2.100 trees in peat areas, and the release of 8.909 hatchlings, and develope 12 BCA Fostered Villages as an effort to preserve and optimize village potential to realize sustainable rural economic resilience.
Inge added, Indonesia is blessed with various natural resources, flora and fauna, as well as unique animals that are endangered on a world scale. The attention and support of all parties in preserving the environment in order to provide a conducive ecosystem for habitat balance is very important in maintaining and conserving these natural resources. This must be a shared awareness and concern so as to enable environmental balance.
