Guiding Local Products to Shine Globally, BCA Presents UMKM Indonesia Go Export 2024

Malang, 20 August 2024 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) organized "Workshop UMKM Indonesia Go Export 2024" in Malang. Held from August 20-24, 2024, at Savana Hotel, Malang, this workshop marked the launch of the “UMKM Indonesia Go Export 2024" program. Through this initiative, Bakti BCA offers a platform for MSMEs to enhance their capacity and skills, enabling them to scale into international markets.

The opening ceremony of Workshop UMKM Indonesia Go Export 2024 in Malang was officially opened by BCA Director Antonius Widodo Mulyono and International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Indonesia Executive Director Lusiana Indomo, and attended by Head of BCA Regional Office VII Hianni and BCA Business Commercial & SME Division SVP, Tjoeng Haryanto. A total of 20 MSMEs from Malang and its surrounding areas participated in the workshop. The program offers a specialized curriculum tailored to the specific needs and challenges MSMEs encounter when entering export markets, covering key topics such as international trade transactions, product quality improvement, and financial reporting.

BCA Director Antonius Widodo Mulyono expressed, “In collaboration with ICC Indonesia, BCA has developed the UMKM Indonesia Go Export program to empower MSMEs with the capability needed to expand their businesses internationally. This program aims to prepare 60 MSMEs for export readiness. We hope that participants will fully leverage this opportunity to enhance their product quality, enabling them to meet and exceed international standards.”

UMKM Indonesia Go Export is part of the sustainable development program ‘Bakti BCA’ under the Desa Bakti BCA pillar. BCA has been running this program since 2023 designed to strengthen the growth of MSMEs in Indonesia. Previously, Bakti BCA, in collaboration with ICC Indonesia, conducted a pre-curation process that involved market research and consolidation to identify high-potential products for the global market, including information on export destination countries and potential consumer data. Following this, MSMEs undergo a curation stage where they are evaluated based on business line suitability, production capacity, document completeness, and field verification results.

“Boosting the export performance of the MSME sector requires the collaboration of multiple stakeholders. We highly value Bakti BCA’s initiative, which reflects a deep commitment to empowering MSMEs in Indonesia. With ongoing support and robust synergy between BCA and ICC Indonesia, we are confident this initiative will open doors for MSMEs to enter export markets and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian products on the global stage,” said Lusiana.

As information, MSMEs contribute 61% to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employ approximately 117 million workers, or 97% of the total workforce in 2023. The potential for MSMEs to contribute to national exports remains substantial, with their current contribution at only about 16% of total exports. Therefore, continued support for MSMEs is essential to meet the government’s target of 17% by 2024.

In addition to Malang, the UMKM Indonesia Go Export program will also be hosted in Bandung and Surabaya. BCA's commitment to this initiative extends beyond just providing training to selected MSMEs. After the completion of the training series, BCA, in collaboration with ICC Indonesia, will continue to support the participating MSMEs by facilitating their access to international markets. This includes opportunities to showcase their products at prestigious events like Trade Expo Indonesia and assisting with the transaction process involving potential international buyers.

In 2023, the UMKM Indonesia Go Export program was held in Semarang and Yogyakarta. Through this initiative, BCA successfully assisted Wastraloka, an MSME from Yogyakarta, with its first export to China. Additionally, BCA helped another participant, Prospero Food Realcho, export cocoa powder, totaling 2 containers or 34 metric tons. This transaction had a value of USD 57,800, equivalent to approximately IDR 907 million, and was sent to a country in Asia.

BCA’s support for MSME players is evident in its financing aspect, with MSME financing growing by 12.7% year-on-year, reaching IDR 114.4 trillion as of June 2024. BCA’s support for the MSME sector is also reflected in the bank’s Macroprudential Inclusive Financing Ratio (RPIM), which stands at 22.2%.

BCA’s continuous support for Indonesian MSMEs is demonstrated through its organization of workshops and the issuance of halal certifications, with 1,000 halal certificates issued throughout 2023. The bank also actively facilitates MSMEs' access to potential markets by hosting events that connect them with prospective buyers. Recently, BCA successfully organized the BCA UMKM Fest 2024, featuring over 1,200 MSMEs showcasing their standout products.

“The Workshop UMKM Indonesia Go Export aims to cultivate MSMEs that can thrive and compete effectively in the export market. We have observed that many MSMEs still encounter difficulties in accessing international markets and executing overseas transactions. We hope this initiative will boost export activities among MSMEs and make a substantial contribution to Indonesia’s economic growth,” concluded Widodo.
