Jakarta, August 21, 2024 - A total of 4,400 plastic bottle waste (approximately 82 kilograms) was collected during the 3-day implementation of BCA Expo 2024 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, August 16-18. The collection of plastic bottle waste was carried out using one unit of Reverse Vending Machine (RVM), a collaboration between Bakti BCA and Plasticpay.
The enthusiasm of BCA Expo 2024 visitors to recycle their plastic bottle waste was evident from the long queue at the recycling machine during the event. Through the RVM machine, BCA Expo 2024 customers and visitors had the opportunity to redeem plastic bottle waste into points, which can be converted into rupiah. All plastic bottle waste collected will be recycled into eco-friendly fibers or basic materials for environmentally friendly products.
One of the visitors to BCA Expo 2024 who was enthusiastic about seeing the RVM Bakti BCA and Plasticpay machine was Birgita Stephanie. Together with her child, Birgita, who regularly comes to BCA Expo and BCA Expoversary, considers the presence of RVMs to be very much needed in various crowded events.
“The availability of this machine helps children realize the importance of going green from an early age. Children also get excited every time they come to BCA Expo. The teaching of saving is also good, one bottle can be converted into money that can be used for the next activity. This also motivates them that when we do positive activities, there are good effects for the environment and for ourselves,” said Birgita.
Bakti BCA's collaboration with Plasticpay in presenting RVM has been carried out since the last few years. Since collaborating with Plasticpay in mid-2023, the amount of plastic waste collected from the organization of BCA Expoversary and BCA Expo offline reached 16,000 bottles with a total weight of around 300 kg. For BCA Expoversary 2024, the collected bottles were not only converted into rewards for donors, but also to support the release of 500 sea turtle hatchlings.
In addition, Bakti BCA has been actively supporting sea turtle conservation in Indonesia's oceans in collaboration with the Banyuwangi Sea Turtle Foundation (BSTF) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). From 2015-2023, BCA has

- adopted and relocated more than 450 turtle nests,
- planting 300 sea pandanus as beach vegetation, as well as

The commitment continued in July 2024, when Bakti BCA supported BSTF to research and build “Intan Ruang”, a room-scale artificial turtle egg incubation device. BCA also released 1,600 hatchlings at So Long Beach, Banyuwangi, and educated 100 students from two local elementary schools about sea turtle conservation.
