In partnership with the Cataract Blindness Management Section of the Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association (SPBK PERDAMI), this event served over 250 patients from Banjar City and nearby areas. The event was inaugurated by Chief Operating Officer of BCA Main Branch Office in Tasikmalaya Solihin, and attended by Regional Secretary of Banjar Dwi Yanti Estiningrum, Public Health Office of Banjar’s Representative Sari W. Wiharso, RSU Banjar Patroman Director Adam Abdul Malik Sujoko, and Central SPBK PERDAMI Administrator Dyana Theresia Watania.
BCA EVP of Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility Hera F. Haryn expressed, “Cataract disease hampers productivity and is one of the most prevalent visual impairments globally. Despite being treatable, not all communities have equal access to adequate health facilities. BCA strives to be present and reduce this gap by offering quality health services, including the cataract surgery social service program. We hope that this initiative will help reduce the number of cataract patients and improve the quality of life for the beneficiaries, their families, and the surrounding communities.”
This marks the second time BCA has organized a cataract surgery social service program in Banjar City, following a similar initiative held two years ago. The program was reinstated due to the significant ongoing need within the community. We hope that this initiative will positively impact the daily lives of each patient, leading to a direct or indirect improvement in their overall quality of life.
“Reducing the number of cataract patients is a key government target that requires support through collaboration with various parties. To this end, we have consistently partnered with SPBK PERDAMI to conduct cataract surgery social service programs, which have been carried out in 24 provinces and have restored the sight of over 8,000 patients. Moving forward, BCA remains committed to continuing and expanding the reach of these cataract surgery social service programs across Indonesia.,” added Hera F. Haryn.
The cataract surgery social service program has been routinely conducted by BCA since 2001 in almost all regions. This activity is carried out under Bakti BCA's framework with the aim of improving the quality of public health in order to creating a better future for everyone. In the first half of 2024, over 192 patients had their vision restored through free cataract surgeries organized by BCA in partnership with SPBK PERDAMI at 3 different locations:
- RSUD dr. Salim Alkatiri Namrole, Buru Selatan, Maluku (1-2 March 2024)
- RSUD Pasangkayu, Sulawesi Barat (29 April-1 May 2024)
- RSUD Bengkulu Tengah (24-25 May 2024)
In addition to regularly organizing cataract surgery social service programs, BCA also proactively provides various types of equipment to support SPBK PERDAMI in reducing the number of cataract patients. The donations include microscopes, biometric devices, and several sets of tools for cataract surgery.
BCA, through Bakti BCA, is dedicated to empowering individuals to lead healthier lives by providing quality access to underprivileged communities. This approach aims to foster self-reliant and healthy individuals who can contribute to their communities and support sustainable development. Bakti BCA’s health initiatives include offering medical assistance to over 6,800 people at the Bakti BCA Clinic, “Bakti Sehat untuk Balita”, “Stunting Prevention Education for Teenagers,” and organizing blood donations. Additionally, BCA partners with BKKBN and other organizations in the PASTI (Partnership to Accelerate Stunting Reduction in Indonesia) program to enhance public health through stunting prevention education and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
