West Kalimantan, 11 - 12 Maret 2019 – Entering its 62nd anniversary, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) continues to ensure better public health. Its commitment is implemented through the CSR Bakti BCA program by providing free cataract surgery.
In collaboration with Cataract Blindness Eradication Unit of the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (SPBK-Perdami), BCA organizes free cataract surgery at RSUD dr. Achmad Diponegoro at Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan, Monday (11 – 12 /03). Attending to open the program was Kirman, Head of BCA KCU Kubu Raya, with A.M. Nasir, Regent of Kapuas Hulu, Harisson, Head of Health Office, and Mrs. Tri Rahayu from SPBK Perdami. The Carataract surgery conducted in Kapuas Hulu is targeted to reach more than 130 patients. The program was held for two days (11-12/03), where patients had undergone initial examination process the previous day.
According to data released by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, as of November 2018, many Indonesians had cataract. An estimated 1 million Indonesians suffering from cataract blindness today. Meanwhile, based on the Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB), the average number of blindness in Indonesia is estimated at 3% for those 50 years of age and over.
“Since 2001, we have been organizing free cataract surgeries because we recognize that feasible health services in certain parts of Indonesia remain inaccessible and require special attention. The fact that it can happen to anyone, at any age, has motivated BCA to provide free cataract surgery to reduce the number of blindness caused by cataract,” explained Kirman.
BCA has been working with SPBK-Perdami since 2001. Throughout 2018, BCA has successfully facilitated 4,878 free cataract surgeries. Apart from that, BCA also donated 2 microscope units in 2018 worth Rp500 million. Meanwhile in 2016, BCA had also donated two microscope units worth Rp500 million, 13 surgery tools and 2 biometric tools worth Rp450.45 million in 2015, and 1 unit of microscope worth Rp385 million in 2014.
In addition to surgeries performed at RSUD dr. Achmad Diponegoro in Kapuas Hulu Regency, BCA will also organize free cataract surgeries at RS Masmitra Jati Makmur. BCA also expresses its gratitude through other series of social activities, including Blood Donor, Free Medical Treatments in various regions, health education, seminars for the administrators of BCA assisted tourism villages, etc.
“Eyes are important and have become significant to the public life, and therefore BCA wants to help reduce visual impairment caused by cataract. We hope that the free cataract surgery we hold today can provide long term benefits especially for the people of Kapuas Hulu. Let’s fight against cataract!” Kirman concluded.
