Yogyakarta, 07 March 2020 – PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) continues to implement its commitment in providing value added to Indonesia’s education sector. BCA demonstrated its commitment through the Smart Solution pillar of the Bakti BCA program by organizing teacher training from BCA’s assisted schools in Yogyakarta in collaboration with the Education, Youth and Sports Office of Gunung Kidul. The objective is to equip teachers with the skills to face 21st century learning that implements inquiry-based learning.
Attending to open the event was Vice President Corporate of Social Responsibility of BCA Rizali Zakaria, Head of Branch Business Development of BCA KCU Yogyakarta Wahyu Hariatmanto, Head of Elementary School Department of Education, Youth, and Sports Office of Gunung Kidul Sumarto and facilitator of PT Kuark Internasional in Yogyakarta, Saturday (07/03). The training was followed by 46 teachers from BCA’s Assisted Schools in Gunung Kidul.
Wahyu said that developments in 21st century have also influenced the education system in Indonesia. The 21st century learning relies heavily on effective interaction in the classroom, with unique and valuable learning method that is known as the 4C competencies, which stands for communication, collaborative, critical thinking, and creativity and innovation. Teaching the 4C’s in classrooms encourages students to achieve the expected competencies. In addition, through this training, teachers are expected to utilize technology to aid with lectures and both teachers and students can gain valuable experiences and find effective and measurable learning methods. Through the Bakti BCA’s CSR program, the training is also expected to provide insights and experience to become qualified pedagogical personnel who create and implement quality education.
“The inquiry-based school curriculum is a learning method that requires students to be more active. It has been challenging for teachers in Indonesia. It is still doable nonetheless. Therefore, BCA will provide education and practical solutions for the teachers so as to improve their teaching skills that are in accordance with the standards of education in Indonesia,” added Wahyu.
BCA regularly organizes training for teachers in several regions in Indonesia in order to improve the quality of education. As for Yogyakarta, the teacher training is carried out intensively in the form of blended learning three times a year. The training today is the last leg which focuses more on developing assessment and evaluation instruments in 21st century learning.
BCA’s attention for teachers in Indonesia is a part of the bank’s effort to help local community to grow. Its sustainable empowerment programs demonstrate the bank’s effort to pass down values and virtues as an early agent of change.
“The training is expected to have a major impact on improved quality education in BCA’s assisted schools. On the long term, we also hope that the training would contribute to improved quality education in Indonesia,” Wahyu concluded.
