Beware of Pinjol Offers Claiming to be from BCA on TikTok!

There is an emerging online loan scam (pinjol) posing as BCA, following the previous scams involving BCA credit cards and Paylater. This fraud has shifted from Instagram to TikTok, which is currently popular among young audiences.

It is important to note that BCA has never issued an online loan product that requires only a photo of an ID and a selfie with the ID card.

Fraud Chronology

Scammers target victims primarily through TikTok, as a significant portion of TikTok users falls within the same age group that typically engages with pinjol services. According to the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Fintech Lending Statistics Data 2023, most pinjol customers are aged 19 to 34. Notably, 76% of TikTok users in Indonesia are between 18 and 34 years old (source: ginee.com).

The scammers create fake accounts that resemble official BCA profiles, posting offers for online loans with easy terms, quick disbursement, and appealing credit limits.

In the comments section, scammers often include a fake BCA WhatsApp number to lure potential victims into contacting them.

Once on WhatsApp, these scammers, pretending to be BCA Customer Service representatives, provide details about obtaining an online loan, such as a photo of the ID card, a selfie of the victim holding the ID card, and other sensitive data.

This information is then used by the scammer to apply for online loans through loan applications, with the funds going directly to the scammer while the bills are left for the victims to pay!
