Jakarta, 1 October 2020 - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) as the largest private banking institution in Indonesia continues to support digital transformation to help advance the world of the digital economy in Indonesia. In commemoration of the Sumpah Pemuda Day, BCA supports the Startup Weekend Indonesia, a program that provides opportunities for the younger generation to adapt technology, innovation, and overcome global challenges.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the first series of events for The NextGen Orientation Day Startup Weekend Indonesia was held virtually in Jakarta on Thursday (01/10). This event presented Director of BCA Hendra Lembong as a panelist along with Lalitha Wemel, Regional Director of APAC, Community at Techstars. “It is undeniable that startup growth in Indonesia is growing rapidly. More and more young people today have the capability to initiate startups that will be run, even now they have reached a national scale. This program not only helps young people in honing their soft and hard skills, but also gives them hope in realizing their dream startup,” said Hendra.
In his session, Hendra also added that the key to the success of a startup starts from small things, like curiosity about the surrounding issues. In adapting existing technology, the next generation must be aware of various issues and needs of the surrounding environment, so that technology-based businesses will not only generate profits, but also bring benefits to many people.
The event was attended by more than 1.000 students in 10 cities in Indonesia, including Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Malang, Yogyakarta, Banjarmasin, Manado, Pekanbaru, Batam, and Bali by embracing more than 20 universities. Through the existing programs, apart from creating a better future, it is also hoped that young people will create creativity, agility, resilience, and a high sense of empathy.
"I hope that, through the Startup Weekend Indonesia program, these startups that are being initiated by young people in the future will be able to compete globally and provide added value amidst the growing digitalization of Indonesia, in accordance with the spirit of Sumpah Pemuda," concluded Hendra.
